The Colorado High School Activities Association’s 5A Girls Basketball State Championship advanced to the quarterfinal stage after Wednesday’s Sweet 16 round. The games determined which teams will compete in Friday’s quarterfinals at the Denver Coliseum.
Mead, ranked seventh, narrowly defeated No. 10 Roosevelt with a score of 54-52. This result meant that the top seven seeds moved forward to the next round. Pueblo East, seeded ninth, was the only lower seed to upset a higher-ranked opponent by beating No. 8 Palmer Ridge 57-36.
The quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at the Denver Coliseum. The semifinals will take place on Thursday, March 12 and the championship game is set for Saturday, March 14. The specific times for Saturday’s games will be announced on Thursday.

In third-round play held at home sites on March 4:
– Lutheran beat Falcon, 64-30.
– Green Mountain won against Northridge, 62-30.
– Montrose overcame George Washington, 52-38.
– Windsor prevailed over Golden, 56-36.
– Standley Lake defeated Frederick, 55-35.
– Air Academy won against Thompson Valley, 58-53.
– Mead edged out Roosevelt, as noted earlier.
– Pueblo East triumphed over Palmer Ridge.
Earlier rounds saw all higher-seeded teams hosting their matches and most advancing according to seeding expectations.
The tournament now focuses on the remaining eight teams as they prepare for their upcoming games at a neutral venue in Denver.
