The second round of the 2026 CHSAA 2A Girls State Basketball Tournament took place on Saturday, with all games hosted by top-eight seeds. The winners from this round will advance to the Great 8, scheduled for Thursday at Colorado State University’s Moby Arena in Fort Collins. Semifinal games are set for Friday, and the championship game will be played on Saturday, March 14.
The upcoming Great 8 matchups include No. 1 Merino facing No. 8 Akron, No. 2 Simla playing against No. 7 Heritage Christian, No. 3 Sanford meeting No. 6 Plateau Valley, and No. 4 Sargent taking on No. 5 Sedgwick County.
In Saturday’s second-round results: Merino defeated Center with a score of 63-6; Simla overcame Dayspring Christian Academy, winning 82-26; Sanford beat Swink, 46-26; Sargent won against Hoehne, finishing at 57-26; Sedgwick County secured a win over Calhan with a score of 54-31; Plateau Valley prevailed over Del Norte, winning by a margin of 39-27; Heritage Christian advanced after defeating Holyoke with a score of 62-31; and Akron moved forward after beating James Irwin, finishing at 55-27.
First-round games were held on Friday. In those matchups: Merino won against Custer County (69-10), Simla beat Golden View Classical Academy (74-11), Sanford topped Ridgway (61-21), Sargent overcame Vail Mountain (55-33), Sedgwick County defeated Ascent Classical Academy (66-26), Plateau Valley won over Mancos (54-22), Heritage Christian beat Campion Academy (61-25), Akron secured victory against Soroco (53-23). Other first-round results included Holyoke defeating Caprock Academy (49-27), Del Norte beating Dove Creek (47-26), Calhan overcoming Gilpin County (43-31), Swink prevailing over Trinidad (38-27), Dayspring Christian Academy winning against Las Animas (51-43), Center beating Byers in a close game (47-44), Hoehne overcoming Loveland Classical (45-35) and James Irwin defeating Rangely in an upset win (52-41).
Winners from these rounds now prepare for their next matches as the tournament continues later this week.
