On Friday, March 13, at 3 p.m., Joe McDermott, a former Smoky Hill High School standout, and his college team, the UCCS Mountain Lions, claimed a 20-9 victory over the Regis Rangers in their NCAA Division II baseball game.
Mountain Lion Park hosted the contest. It marked the teams’ second meeting of the season; in their previous clash Tuesday, March 3, the Mountain Lions secured an 8-6 win.
McDermott pitched for 3.1 innings, surrendering seven earned runs, issuing two walks, and recording one strikeout.
The Mountain Lions are set to face the Regis Rangers again Saturday, March 14, at noon at Mountain Lion Park.
