Great Eight set after second round of CHSAA girls basketball tournament

The second round of the 2026 CHSAA 4A Girls Basketball State Tournament took place on Saturday, with all games hosted by the top-eight seeded teams. The winners from these matchups will move on to the Great 8, which is scheduled for Wednesday at the Denver Coliseum. The semifinals are set for Friday, and the championship game will be held on Saturday, March 14.

The Great 8 pairings for Wednesday are as follows: No. 1 University will play No. 8 Alamosa; No. 2 Timnath faces No. 7 Colorado Academy; No. 3 Kent Denver meets No. 6 D’Evelyn; and No. 4 Holy Family takes on No. 5 Sterling.

In Saturday’s second-round results, University defeated Delta, 48-43; Timnath beat Jefferson Academy, 58-23; Kent Denver won over La Junta, 54-14; Holy Family overcame Eaton, 52-36; Sterling edged Pagosa Springs, 37-35; D’Evelyn got past The Classical Academy, 51-46; Colorado Academy topped Kennedy, 49-43; and Alamosa won against Berthoud, 47-39.

First-round games were played on Friday. University defeated St. Mary’s Academy, Timnath beat Fort Morgan, Kent Denver bested Fort Lupton, Holy Family won over DSST: Conservatory Green, Sterling triumphed over Rifle, D’Evelyn overcame Peak to Peak, Colorado Academy topped Pueblo Centennial, and Alamosa won against Wellington.

Other first-round victors included Berthoud over Montezuma-Cortez, Kennedy defeating Lamar, The Classical Academy beating Manitou Springs, Pagosa Springs winning against Skyview, Eaton overcoming Coal Ridge, Jefferson Academy topping Bennett, Delta defeating Eagle Ridge Academy and La Junta winning over DSST: Cedar.

Winners from the second round now look ahead to competing in the next stage at the Denver Coliseum.
