The Colorado High School Activities Association’s 4A Boys and Girls Basketball State Championship semifinals were held on March 13. Kent Denver and University secured spots in the boys’ final, while Kent Denver and Holy Family advanced in the girls’ bracket.
These results set up championship matchups for both boys and girls teams at the Denver Coliseum on March 14. The outcomes are significant as several schools are seeking to add to their state title histories or achieve new milestones.
In the boys’ semifinals, Sam Glynn led No. 1 Kent Denver with 23 points in an 82-72 win over No. 5 Timnath. John Elbe scored 29 points as No. 10 University defeated No. 14 Peak to Peak, 82-70. For the girls, Austin Duncan contributed 15 points and eight rebounds as No. 3 Kent Denver beat No. 2 Timnath, 53-46. Gracie Ward had a strong performance with 12 points and four assists as No. 4 Holy Family upset defending champion and top-seeded University, winning 48-40.
Kent Denver’s boys team is aiming for its second consecutive state championship and third overall, while the girls team is seeking its first-ever title. The University boys have previously won one state title, in 1996, while Holy Family’s girls have claimed seven championships, most recently in 2023.
The championship games will take place at the Denver Coliseum on March 14: Kent Denver faces University in the boys’ final at 11:45 a.m., while Kent Denver meets Holy Family in the girls’ final at 10 a.m.
