Kajsa Wik from Nederland secured the classic title at the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) Nordic State Championships, held at Snow Mountain Range in Granby. Wik, who finished second in Friday’s skate competition, completed the 5-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 27.20 seconds. She finished ahead of Lucy Greenwood from Summit, who posted a time of 20:51.57. This marks Nederland’s first skiing champion since Emily Creek won the Alpine slalom in 2018.
Maeve Niemkiewicz, also from Summit, placed third with a time of 20:56.80. Both Greenwood and Niemkiewicz improved their standings after finishing third and fourth respectively in Friday’s skate event.
Lake County repeated as girls Nordic state champions by winning the relay event—comprising two classic and two skate legs—which extended their lead over Summit from one point to eleven points. Lake County ended with a total score of 694, while Summit finished second with 638 points. Middle Park was third with 568 points, Battle Mountain took fourth with 561 points, and Steamboat Springs rounded out the top five with 517 points.
Lake County had four skiers place in the top ten: Lyla Zoller finished fourth (21:46.18), Finnley Stanek fifth (22:01.48), Aimee Lenhard eighth (22:59.45), and Chloe King tenth (23:12.61). Stanek also placed fifth in Friday’s skate race and was third in last year’s classic event; King was seventh in the skate and eighth last year.
Other notable finishers included Eden DeMino of Battle Mountain (sixth), Marin Little of Summit (seventh), and Evie Fisher of Steamboat Springs (ninth). DeMino previously won Thursday’s Alpine slalom championship.
In the relay competition, Middle Park, Battle Mountain, and Steamboat Springs followed Lake County and Summit among the top five teams.
