The semifinals of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) 1A Boys and Girls State Basketball Tournaments were held on March 13 at the University of Northern Colorado’s Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley.
These games determine which teams will compete for state titles, a significant achievement for high school athletes and their communities. The results also set up key matchups for both championship and consolation rounds.
In the boys’ semifinals, Tuff Kelley led No. 1 McClave with 21 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocked shots as they defeated No. 4 Flatirons Academy, 53-44. Corey Hill scored 24 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to help No. 3 Cheyenne Wells secure a decisive win over No. 2 Nucla, finishing at 59-31.
On the girls’ side, Abrielle Gomez powered No. 1 McClave with an all-around performance—18 points, 12 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks—to beat No. 5 Fleming by a score of 49-33. Rylie Berry contributed significantly for No. 14 Flagler with her own standout game: she scored 21 points and collected nine rebounds in a close victory over No.10 Springfield, ending at 54-48.
The championship games are scheduled for Saturday at the same venue: McClave boys will face Cheyenne Wells at 6:30 p.m., while McClave girls take on Flagler at 5 p.m. The McClave boys aim for their second consecutive—and fourth overall—state title; the girls seek their sixth overall title after winning last year as well. Cheyenne Wells has previously won three state championships in boys basketball, most recently in 2024; Flagler is seeking its first-ever girls basketball state title and its first team championship since 1996.
Consolation matchups were also determined based on quarterfinals and semifinal results earlier in the week.
