The Colorado High School Activities Association’s 6A Girls Basketball State Championship semifinals took place Thursday, March 12, with Northfield and Highlands Ranch securing spots in the final.
The outcome sets up a championship matchup between No. 5 Northfield and No. 7 Highlands Ranch on Saturday at the Denver Coliseum. The game is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
In the first semifinal, Delaney Dennis led Northfield with 22 points as they defeated top-seeded Cherokee Trail, 67-57. In the second game, Addie Moon scored six three-pointers and totaled 22 points to help Highlands Ranch beat Denver East, 52-33.
Highlands Ranch will be seeking its eighth state title in girls basketball and its first since 2011. Northfield is aiming for its first-ever girls basketball state championship.
The tournament has seen several notable results leading up to the final. In the quarterfinals played March 6, Cherokee Trail defeated Legend, Northfield overcame Riverdale Ridge, Denver East won against Valor Christian, and Highlands Ranch upset Arapahoe. Earlier rounds featured victories by all four semifinalists over various opponents across Colorado.
The upcoming championship game will determine whether Highlands Ranch adds another title to its history or if Northfield claims its inaugural crown.
