The quarterfinals of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) 3A Boys and Girls State Basketball Tournaments took place at the University of Denver on March 12.
These games determined which teams would advance to the semifinals, with both boys and girls teams competing for a spot in the championship. The results set up key matchups for the next round as teams continue their pursuit of a state title.
In boys action, St. Mary’s was led by Bret Stewart and Jeremiah Starr, who each scored 17 points in a 67-60 win over Colorado Springs Christian. Forge Christian, seeded second, held off Windsor Charter Academy with Levi Clark scoring 18 points in a close 47-43 victory. Top-seeded Strasburg defeated Wiggins behind Nick Glatfelter’s double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, winning 62-47. Banning Lewis Academy secured an overtime win against defending champion Resurrection Christian thanks to Matthew Lebron’s standout performance with 33 points.
On the girls side, Yuma advanced after Taryn Sheffield scored 14 points in a narrow win over Colorado Springs Christian. Salida moved forward as Braeden Johnson posted an impressive stat line with 36 points and nine rebounds to defeat Centauri. Denver Christian dominated Roaring Fork with Teagan Fuller contributing 18 points in a decisive victory. Resurrection Christian rounded out the night as Bethany Vrooman tallied 21 points and eight rebounds to upset Wiggins.
The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, March 13 at the University of Denver, followed by the championship game on Saturday, March 14. Boys semifinal matchups include Strasburg versus St. Mary’s and Forge Christian facing Banning Lewis Academy. For the girls, Denver Christian will play Salida while Yuma meets Resurrection Christian.
