City of Aurora issued the following announcement on Oct. 9.
Now is the time to be counted in the 2020 Census. Data collection is scheduled to end on Oct. 31 and the Census Bureau is encouraging all Aurorans to respond. We still have one last chance to Be Heard, Be Seen and Be Counted in the 2020 Census. You can still respond on your own, whether online, over the phone or by mail — all without having to meet a census taker.
The Census happens every 10 years and it defines the distribution of millions of dollars in federal funds for school programs, health care, roads, first responders and much more. Most importantly, it helps improve the quality of life of our community and get the services we need based on our population.
How to respond to the Census:
- Online at 2020census.gov
- By phone at 844.330.2020 in English and 12 Non-English languages
- By mail using the paper questionnaire mailed to non-responding addresses
Due to a recent increase in Arapahoe County's COVID incidence rates, the county has implemented its mitigation plan for controlling the spread of the virus. The county has been in Level 1 of the state's Safer at Home public health orders, but the incidence increases could move the county to Level 2, which means the county may be a risk of heightened restrictions.
To help reverse the trend, all county residents and visitors should recommit themselves to wearing masks or face coverings, maintaining at least six fee of social distancing from others, and washing hands frequently. It also means that people should avoid indoor gatherings as much as possible, even with family or friends, unless they can be certain that attendees are COVID free. This is especially crucial now that the weather is cooling and more gatherings are moving indoors. To review the county's mitigation plan and for more details, visit the Arapahoe County website.
New COVID-19 rapid testing site open in Aurora
A smaller rapid testing site is providing free testing for those specifically without insurance or who are experiencing homelessness at the Restoration Christian Fellowship at 15660 E. Sixth Ave. No appointment is necessary, but only a limited amount of testing is available and is first come, first served. Results are available the same day. For other testing site locations, visit TCHD.org.
