City of Aurora issued the following announcement on Nov. 16.
Other Road Construction Work:
Fitzsimons-Peoria Stormwater Outfall Project
Work is being done to upgrade the stormwater conveyance capacity in the Fitzsimons-Peoria corridor to meet current city standards. When completed, the project will provide improved flood protection to about 230 residents and 40 businesses. Visit Fitz-Peoria.org for details.
Update: Beginning Nov. 9 and lasting for about three weeks, northbound Peoria Street will be minimized to a single through lane around the clock between East 14th and East 17th avenues. During this period, southbound Peoria Street will remain minimized to two lanes, and the right turn lane on westbound East Colfax Avenue will stay closed. Alternate routes are suggested.
Smith Road work continues
Smith Road from Picadilly Road to Smith Way is closed until late February for Aurora Water’s First Creek Interceptor project. A detour is in place.
Gun Club Road closure for pipe installation
From Oct. 19 to Nov. 19, Gun Club Road between Colfax Avenue and Sixth Parkway will be closed while Aurora Water installs a new 60-inch pipe. Signed detours will direct drivers onto Sixth Avenue, Powhaton Road and Colfax Avenue. Please use caution. Alternate routes are suggested.
Chambers Road lane reduction
In early December, work on Chambers Road just north of Sixth Avenue that will result in a reduction of lanes from three to two, with a traffic diversion. The southbound Chambers Road left turn lane to eastbound Sixth Avenue will be closed, and the eastbound Sixth Avenue left turn lane to northbound Chambers Road will be reduced capacity so Xcel Energy can install a large capacity gas line. Alternate routes are advised.
Havana and Sixth lane closures
Until Nov. 30, the intersection at Havana and Sixth Avenue will have multiple lane closures on weekends, including restricted left turns from northbound Havana Street to westbound Sixth Avenue, for Aurora Water to renew a 30-inch water line. Please use alternate routes.

Until Dec. 7, Gun Club Road between Colfax Avenue and 6th Parkway will be closed while Aurora Water installs a new 60-inch pipe. Signed detours are in place. Please use caution. Alternate routes are suggested.

Quincy Avenue/Gun Club Road Intersection Improvements
Construction began October 2019 on the improvement project at Quincy Avenue and Gun Club Road.

RTD 15L (East Colfax) Route Improvements
RTD is upgrading 37 bus stops between Broadway in Denver and I-225 in Aurora to include enhanced shelters with lighting, security cameras and benches. Other improvements such as queue bypass lanes, bus bulbouts (curb extensions) and expanded boarding areas will be added in key locations along the corridor.
CDOT Road Construction Updates
Central I-70 corridor improvements
CDOT is improving the Central I-70 corridor, including work that extends into Aurora.
Update: Beginning at 10 p.m. Nov. 19, the I-70 off-ramp to Chambers Road will be closed until 5:30 a.m. Nov. 20. Follow the signed detour.
