COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF AURORA: CCA Receives $20,000 from Ellucian to Help Students Stay on Educational Path

Education

Community College of Aurora issued the following announcement on Nov. 17.

Ellucian, a market leader in higher-education technology solutions, has awarded the Community College of Aurora Foundation $20,000 in scholarship money to help dozens of CCA students stay on their educational path despite the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The award was made through Ellucian’s Progress, Accomplishment, Thriving, Hope (PATH) initiative, a global awareness campaign and scholarship fund created to provide financial assistance to community college students experiencing economic hardship due to COVID-19. CCA was one of 25 community colleges from across the country selected for a PATH award.

The CCA Foundation will award $5,000 to students enrolled in one or more of the college’s 500-plus noncredit professional development courses, which are delivered online, self-paced, and aligned to high-demand industries. Topics include leadership, management, budgeting, financial analysis, information technology, cybersecurity, healthcare, and Lean Six Sigma. Classes start at $79 for three hours of instruction.

The remaining $15,000 will be used to support students who were approved but didn’t receive a relief scholarship through CCA’s limited CARES Act funding. Students taking six-nine credits will receive $500, those taking 10-11 credits $750, and those taking 12 or more credits $1,000.

“As a partner to education institutions around the world, we are humbled to see how the education community sprang into action in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Ellucian President and CEO Laura Ipsen said in a press release. “No matter what the ‘next normal’ becomes in higher education, how we respond is up to us. Education has the power to transform lives and build a more just society. We’re honored to launch this scholarship, empowering students to continue following their dreams.”

Added CCA Foundation Executive Director John Wolfkill: “We are thankful for Ellucian’s partnership in supporting CCA students to stay on the path to a college credential. The PATH Scholarship award will ensure that our students have the academic skills and industry credentials they need to fuel our economy.”
