City of Aurora issued the following announcement on Sept. 24.
The city of Aurora is accepting applications now for vacancies on the city’s 30 boards, commissions, committees and authorities, including the ones detailed below. Positions are volunteer and will remain open until filled. To apply or for more information, call 303.739.7140 or visit AuroraGov.org/Boards. Due to COVID-19, meetings are currently virtual.
Aurora Commission for Seniors
Members enhance the quality of life of the senior population in Aurora by supporting current programs and promoting the development of new ones in the areas of housing, transportation, health, nutrition, legislation, recreation, education, advocacy and networking. Members must be Aurora residents who are at least 45 years old and registered voters, among other qualifications. The board usually meets on the first Monday of each month at 1 p.m. The term of service is three years.
Aurora Fox Arts Center Board
Members advise the City Council and Library and Cultural Services Department director regarding the planning, regulation, maintenance, repair and operation of the Aurora Fox. Ten members must be Aurora residents and five members may include nonresident property or business owners in the city or nonresidents employed by the city. Members must have an interest in promoting the Aurora Fox. The commission usually meets monthly on the second Monday at 6:30 p.m. The term of service is three years.
Cultural Affairs Commission
Members provide ongoing, systemic planning and development of cultural arts within the city. Members must be Aurora residents, registered voters and represent various aspects of the arts community. The board usually meets monthly on second Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The term of service is three years.
Human Relations Commission
Members promote a mutual understanding and respect among all people, disseminate information and educational material to eliminate prejudice, promote human relations and investigate complaints of this nature. Members must be Aurora residents and registered voters, among other qualifications. The commission usually meets monthly on the first Wednesday at 6 p.m. The term of service is three years.
Independent Review Board
Members assist the police chief in the deliberative process in determining an appropriate level of discipline for instances of sustained misconduct by subject members, and review events that draw significant community interest. The board is made up of four civilian members and four police personnel, and the city strives to appoint members that represent its diverse population. The Independent Review Board process is a function of the Human Resources Department under the control of the Human Resources director or designee. Members must be at least 18 years old, Aurora residents, registered voters and a graduate of the Aurora Citizens’ Police Academy or equivalent. The committee meets as needed. Hearings are closed and held as requested primarily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The term of service is three years.
