WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06) released this statement following House passage of the “Default on America Act,” Republicans' irresponsible budget proposal to temporarily raise the debt ceiling while capping government spending at Fiscal Year 2022 levels. This move would cut funding for all non-defense government programs by at least 20 percent, including slashing veterans benefits, reducing investments in clean energy, and cutting food, health care, and education assistance for millions of Americans. Crow voted against the legislation.
Congressman Crow joined nearly 200 fellow Congressional Members in sending a letter to Speaker McCarthy to call for a clean bill to raise the debt ceiling and prevent a catastrophic economic default.
In a statement, Congressman Crow said:
“The US could face a catastrophic economic default if the debt ceiling isn’t raised. Instead of passing a clean bill to raise the debt ceiling, Congressional Republicans’ proposed to slash veterans benefits, reduce investments in clean energy, and cut food, healthcare, and educational assistance for millions of Americans. It’s a nonstarter. I look forward to passing a clean debt ceiling bill, so the US can pay our bills and prevent a devastating economic default.”
