Crow: “America needs to pay its bills and avoid economic collapse, period.”
WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06), former Army Ranger, released this statement on House consideration of the Bipartisan Budget Agreement, legislation to suspend the debt ceiling and prevent catastrophic economic default. This bipartisan legislation follows House Republicans’ previous budget proposal, which cut veterans benefits while holding the economy hostage and threatening economic collapse.
In response to House Republicans’ proposed cuts to veterans benefits, Congressman Crow joined Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, fellow veterans, and Democratic colleagues last week to call out House Republicans’ hypocrisy in voicing their support for veterans, while voting to cut veterans benefits.
In a statement, Congressman Crow said:
“We cannot default on our debt. We cannot, for the first time in our nation’s history, undermine the full faith and credit of our government.
“I’m voting for this bill not because it’s perfect, but because if we don’t and America fails to pay its bills, thousands of jobs could be lost, families could go without food, retirement savings tapped, and our entire economy left in jeopardy. America needs to pay its bills and avoid economic collapse, period.”
